The Cross Compliance Programme is available to help with the technical requirements of Cross Compliance to ensure you qualify for the Single Payment.
In 2006 the programme will be running events throughout the UK to help you to complete your Soil Protection Review. Contact the Helpline to register to attend walks or workshops, host workshops or for answers to technical questions.
Soils and Soil Planning will be a key focus of the Cross Compliance Programme in the coming months. In December 2005, farmers should have received a copy of revised 'The Cross Compliance Handbook (2006 Edition)', 'The Cross Compliance Guidance for Soils Management' and the template for the Soil Protection Review. The guidance documents should help you to fill in your Soil Protection Review, which must be complete by 1st Sept. 2006.
In 2006 you will have to draw up a simple risk-based Soil Protection Review. This will identify planning measures that will help you to avoid any soil issues you have observed on your holding, and for future years the actions you will take to address problems if your plans do not work. The Cross Compliance guidance for Soil Management (2006 edition) sent with your Soil Protection Review (SPR) should help you to complete the template. The reference numbers on the template correlate to the reference numbers in the Soils Guidance. The review must be completed by 1st Sept. 2006 and implemented on your farm from the 1st January 2007.
In 2006, a further seven Directives and Regulations will apply. These cover notification of diseases, public, animal and plant health. Information will be sent to you by Defra in good time before you need to take action.
